Activities on National Popular Science Day in 2017——A study tour to SEASRI by teachers and students from Suzhou University of Science and Technology
Release time:2017-09-14

In response to the activities on National Popular Science Day in 2017, Suzhou Electrotechnical Society (hereinafter referred to as “SES”) held the popular science activity “Testing Knowledge Popularization Among Campus Students” (hereinafter referred to as “this Activity”) on September 12~13. This Activity was organized by Suzhou Electrical Apparatus Science Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as “EETI”, affiliated to SES Secretariat) jointly with Suzhou University of Science and Technology.

This Activity was made up of two parts: popularization of apparatus testing basics; study tour to front-line testing lab. As an important means to improve the quality of apparatus products, apparatus testing is necessarily a key to the transformation of China from a big manufacturer to a strong manufacturer. In order to popularize apparatus testing knowledge among college students in electrical engineering, SES took the opportunity of National Popular Science Day and organized lectures on popularization of apparatus testing basics to enable college students to have a general idea about apparatus testing as an area of expertise.

To enable college students to better understand the testing lab in an intuitive manner, SES organized the students to have a study tour to EETI, organizer of this Activity. This study tour was led by Prof. Xu Honghua, Head of Teaching and Research Office, and Associate Professor Chen Zhenping, from Suzhou University of Science and Technology, with participants of more than 150 sophomores majoring in electrical engineering. EETI attached high importance to this Activity, and arranged experts of this field for reception and interpretation during the tour.

The teachers and students visited the Lightning Impulse Lab, Extreme Climate Lab, EMC Lab, Seismic Lab, and so on. Students felt deeply astonished at the strong and complete testing means and capability of EETI. During the tour, students proposed their questions and ideas and exchanged with lab experts. Through this study tour, it was successful to popularize the apparatus testing basics among college students, improve their understanding to the industry of apparatus testing, and enhance their interest in this field. This Activity came to a successful conclusion!
